And the joy of making again…

I thought I’d want a break but I couldn’t resist preparing some canvas for my new work once I begun to have some ideas about the form of it. I think this came in part from beginning to reimagine and then re-photographing Fissure (formerly Happenstance) as a sculptural work. 

 

As soon as I had the canvas in my hand that was it ...  the form became more concrete and the colour too. I'm thinking about it in terms of ...Stretched sinews and padded ‘skin’ with a wound revealed, stitched around emphasised in a sea of disintegrating grey flesh.

I’m going to try rubbing the surface of the canvas away and then darning the cloth. I was reminded of darning watching ‘The Repair Shop’ the other day and thought of all the meaning darning has, repairing, care… it suddenly seemed really appropriate to my work and its concerns.
