How does it make me feel?

Amazed at the painting skill

Work very impactful, great space (the gallery) not as shiny and finished as previous work of hers that I have seen, rawer - why is this? Paint more matt, they aren’t framed?

Enjoying her splitting the subject across two canvases but also not gimmicky, she’s not doing it all the time.

Colour palette very strong, vibrant combinations yet subtle. Purple under painting with the green and brown skin tones in The Black Agronomical. Use of contrasting coloured ground  

I wonder how much she plans ahead. The compositions are really strong in particular Alabaster for Infidels 

The poses are naturalistic, recognisable, influences by Cezanne and Bonnard, cropped images, people sitting at tables. 

 

How does it relate to my practice?

Gestural mark making, accomplished handling of the paint 

Sensitive colour palette subtle and clever dark and light handling of dark colours palette
